JANUARY 21, 2020 LUNCH AND LEARN

Tuesday, January 21, 2020,
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Please join NALS Twin Cities for a lunch time presentation by Darren Sharp and Peter Christian of Schaefer Halleen, LLC.  They will discuss what rights federal and state laws provide to employees who require leaves of absence, including for medical issues, disabilities, caring for loved ones, and pregnancies. They will also share their experiences prosecuting legal claims on behalf of employees who were denied leave requests.

In the employment law field, Darren concentrates his practice on discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation claims with a portfolio of clients ranging from manual laborers to senior corporate executives. He also regularly enforces medical leave rights and protects from retaliation employees who refuse to engage in illegal conduct or who report such conduct.  Darren has successfully prosecuted employment claims against some of the most powerful companies in world.  He has helped dozens of individuals fight improper denials of unemployment compensation benefits.  He has argued in both Minnesota state and federal courts, yet represents clients from across the country and internationally.

As an advocate who takes pride in representing a wide range of employees – from top level executives to blue collar laborers – Peter is an aggressive and fearless advocate motivated first and foremost by results.  He has successfully prosecuted employment claims involving discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower protection, failure to pay, and other illegal treatment experienced by employees. Peter has also earned a reputation for successfully negotiating employment contracts and severance agreements for employees of all levels. His recent success includes securing one of the largest public settlements in Minnesota in recent years for an individual employee – a $2.385 million resolution for a medical professional who had alleged that he was retaliated against and defamed after blowing the whistle on illegal conduct in his workplace.
